Launching 2019 IAFL Season!

The IAFL will officially launch its 2019 campaign on August 2, 2018 with a live from the IAFL League Office. The 2019 League meeting will be in December for teams committed for the 2019 Season.

Last month the Garden City Seahawks defeated the Oak City Lions at Finley Stadium, Chattanooga, to become the first IAFL Phantom Horse Champions.

The Seahawks will return to defend the title while Coach James Barrett has retooled and returns with his new brand, the Carolina Cardinals. Both teams will be early favorites to return for another round, while teams like the Atlanta Enforcers, the Riverdale Spartans, Georgia Dawgs, Tennessee Cobras, Atlanta Tigers, Sumter Sharks, East Tennessee Bomber, MJR Bucks, Hilton Head Sharks, are among the returning teams that will all be improved and will certainly challenge. The IAFL will also add an Alabama Region in 2019 and will announce those teams as well as additional teams in other regions as they officially commit.

There is no doubt there were challenges in our first year but overall the season was a success and everyone who attended the All-Star and Championship games enjoyed the venue. Next year the IAFL Phantom Horse All-Star and Championship will be on June 15, 2019 at Finley Stadium. The League will once again go live each week from a different venue and we will look to improve in all areas but most of all have a great time!

The League meeting, location and time, will be announced. This meeting will be only for teams officially committed to the 2019 Season. If you have any questions about the 2019 Season feel free to email Tracey Rico at traceylrico@gmail.com or call (423) 488-8289 anytime.

Playoffs Wide Open!

The IAFL Playoffs have begun! So far there are no surprises. The North Carolina Division was delayed a week by weather but what has not changed is that the Lions and the Dragons are the favorites. In South Carolina, the Bulls and the Seahawks play in a rematch of an earlier 42-20 Bulls win but the Seahawks have home field advantage and are prepared to exact revenge.

In the Georgia region, it is what everyone thought that it would be as the Danger and Horseman prepare for round two after a Horseman overtime victory earlier in the season gave them the home field advantage in what arguably is the toughest region in the IAFL.

The Tri-State Wolves after an 8-0 regular season found themselves trailing the Knoxville Knights 8-6 when lightening postponed the game until June 2nd. The Knights are looking to become the only team not ranked in the final top twelve to win an IAFL Region title.

This weekend will certainly tell a great deal about who the true contenders are and while home field may play a huge role, it still will not be determined how the semi-fianls will break down until all the games are played. The League will be going live on Saturday night and will update scores from all over via Mevo!

Guardians Save the Day!

Scottie Griffin and his South Georgia Guardians are now officially in the IAFL. The Guardians will take the schedule vacated by the North Georgia Steelers, who decided not to compete in the 2018 IAFL Spring season. Scottie brings a young but excited group of players led by head coach Mark Merrill, assistant coach Desmand Wilson, offensive coordinator Blue Young and defensive coordinator Joseph Hanna. The Guardians will host the Riverdale Spartans on March 3, 2018 to open the season. The Riverdale Spartans and the South Georgia Guardians are both in the IAFL ‘Darkseid Division’.

Marion Rhinos Moving Forward

Chuck Hoyle is a firefighter who was recently injured on the job. He is also the owner of the Marion Rhinos. In the last few months, the Rhinos have faced the challenges that so many young semi-pro teams have to deal with.  The Rhinos do not have huge numbers and even some coaches have lost faith and have moved on; however, Chuck Hoyle is just as determined as a team owner as he is risking his life as a firefighter.  Many teams have questioned the Rhinos’ ability to compete in the IAFL this season, and while it is not determined at what level they may compete, they will most definitely show up.

Chuck has announced the addition of a new co-owner, that will be named at a later date, and the Rhinos will continue on and plan to compete for the Rapture Division title. While the Rhinos may not be ready to compete for the IAFL Championship this season, we fully expect them to return next year improved and on a mission.
